Many of the villagers were familiar with the herds that passed through their town. Usually, these gentle giants simply crossed it from side to side in their quest for water, food and shelter. But that day, one of the elephants suddenly stopped at the edge of the village, trumpeted loudly, and then started frantically digging a hole in the ground. The community was surprised to notice her dig with a resolve bordering on obsession. But after 11 hours, the elephant pulled out something unexpected from the hole, and the whole community gasped in shock. Truly, an amazing story that demonstrates the knowledge and stamina of animals amongst us in the jungle, as well as the sensitivity and kindness of those who live near them. The elephant would not have most likely have been saved. Was it not for the village people who recognized the signals/body language of the elephants because I have someone who does not live there would not have recognized it but thankfully they did and were able to assist the elephant in getting out her baby.
